Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr.

Sherlock Jr. (1924)

Directed by Buster Keaton, 45 mins
Featuring live musical score by Fern Lindzon Quartet

Monday September 3, 2:30pm, Studio Theatre, FREE

Comedy great Buster Keaton showcases his astonishingly acrobatic slapstick in this hilarious masterpiece about a cinema projectionist and would-be detective who falls asleep on the job and dreams himself into the mystery film playing on the screen. Experience Keaton’s classic with a special live performance of a new musical score by noted pianist Fern Lindzon and her klezmer-jazz quartet. Originally commissioned by TIFF for performance at the Bell Lightbox in 2010, Lindzon’s creative score interprets Keaton’s tour de force performance with klezmer modes, themes and grooves, and is performed by a top-flight ensemble of Toronto Jazz and Jewish music stalwarts. Fern Lindzon has performed in clubs and festivals across Canada in her own jazz ensembles and with several klezmer and world music bands. Fern has two critically acclaimed recordings to her credit and received a 2012 JUNO Award nomination for her most recent recording, Two Kites.
