Customize Your Ashkenaz Festival

The Ashkenaz Festival website comes with a unique feature that allows you to bookmark artists and events as you’re browsing through the lineup or the schedule. When you’re ready to come to the festival, if you wish, you can print out your customized schedule or artist listings to bring along. Or better yet, access them on your smart phone.

In order to use this feature, you must become a registered user of the website. Registration is free and very simple. You can click here to register.

Instructions for Use

The first step is always to login. Once you’re logged in, when you’re browsing through the Performers & Artists and the Schedule, you will see buttons that look like these:

Clicking on the My Schedule button will add that event to your schedule. Clicking on the My Artists button will bookmark that artist in your artist list.

After you have a few artists and events bookmarked, viewing them at a glance is simple.

To view My Artists on the Performers & Artists page, simply click the “My Artists” button (near the top, between “All Artists” and “Print”) to filter the list to show only your bookmarked artists. This same button is available on all of the discipline-specific artist pages as well. Of course, you can also simply choose “My Artists” from the Performers & Artists menu.

To view My Schedule on the Schedule page, simply click the “My Schedule” button. This will highlight any events that you have added to your schedule. Within the schedule itself, you can add and remove events from your schedule by clicking the checkbox below the event listing. Notice that the schedule page also has a “My Artists” page. By clicking that button, events where your bookmarked artists are appearing will instantly be highlighted, allowing you to see at a glance events that you might be interested in.

Browsing by Discipline

On the Performers & Artists and Schedule pages, you will see a small colourful table listing off the different disciplines that Ashkenaz presents at the festival. Clicking on any of those disciplines will instantly filter the page to only show you artists or events within that discipline. To reset the page, simply click the “All Events” or “All Artists” button.

Additional Filters

On the Performers & Artists page, you have the additional capability of being able to filter the list by tag. All of the artists and performers have been tagged with related keywords. Tags include things like klezmer, sephardic and hip-hop. To view all of the tags, click the “Additional Filters” link on any Performers & Artists page. This will reveal a list of tags. To filter the page for a tag, simply click the tag. This will change the page to show you only artists tagged with your chosen tag. Clicking on the tag again will remove that filter. You can also click the “clear” button at the end of the tag list.

Printing

It’s possible to print off your artists or your schedule directly from this website. The Performers & Artists page and the Schedule page have been developed specially so that when you print, you _only_ get the information that you want, and not the other stuff (like the menu and the sidebar). To print your artists or your schedule, simply click the print button on the page, or select File > Print from your browser.

Note on background colors: By default, every browser is set up to NOT print background colours when you print a webpage. It’s possible, though somewhat convoluted, to turn on a setting to include background colors. We use background colours on this website to indicate the discipline that an artist or event is showcasing. If you want to turn on background-colour printing, check out a page for Internet Explorer or a page for Firefox. Note that these pages might not apply to the version of the browser you’re using. A little digging on Google will help you find a solution if printing background colors is important to you.
