Participants of this Master Class Will:

  • Attend three 2hr master classes with Steven Greenman & Pete Rushefsky
    • Saturday September 4th, 4-6pm*
    • Sunday September 5th, 10am-12pm
    • Monday September 6th, 10am-12pm
  • Receive full repertoire of sheet music in advance
  • Perform LIVE at the 2010 Ashkenaz Festival, September 6th, 6-7pm

*Those who observe Shabbat can still participate! If you observe Shabbat, you may miss the Saturday Master Class. In this case, please ensure you review all the repertoire –given in advance—and come prepared for the Sunday and Monday Master Class in order to be ready to perform. Please inquire for more details or concerns.

All Ages Welcome!

Pre-requisites: Intermediate level & up, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Tsimbl and Mandolin. Basic musical literacy. Bring your own instrument and musicstand.

PRE-FESTIVAL ASHKENAZ PARADE WORKSHOPS WITH SHADOWLAND THEATRE

Ashkenaz Kids Puppetry Workshop
The 2010 Ashkenaz Festival invites you to join us this summer for an afternoon of puppet making!
Come learn how to create your own unique puppet, to take home! With your new-found puppet-
making skills, you will also help build puppets for the Ashkenaz Festival’s biggest work of art:  The
Ashkenaz Parade!  This puppetry workshop will be led by the highly imaginative artists-educators
from Shadowland Theatre.
Date: Sunday August 29, 1-4pm
Location: The Hungarian Canadian Cultural Centre, 840 St. Clair Avenue West
(between Bathurst and Oakwood).
Ages: Open to children ages 9 and up, parents welcome!
Registration: Participation is free, but registration is required as space is limited.

Drop-in Parade Prep Opportunities!
Ever wonder how all those giant puppets and props seen in the Ashkenaz Parade are created? Find
out for yourself and get in on the fun by visiting Shadowland Theatre in the weeks preceding the
festival as they prepare the festival site decor and Ashkenaz Parade puppets, props and costumes.
People with graphic skills and those who are Yiddish speakers/writers are also greatly needed to
help out!
Drop in between 11 am-4 pm and 6-8 pm on the following dates:
Monday August 23 – Thursday August 26
Monday August 30 – Wednesday September 1
Volunteer hours available!
Note: The 2010 Ashkenaz Parade will take place on Monday September 6th, at 4 pm!



PARADE CRAFTS with Shadowland Theatre

Help create the festival’s largest work of art! Assisted by Shadowland Theatre, kids can create their own costumes and props for the Ashkenaz Parade on Labour Day Monday.

“TANTZ AWAY WITH ASHKENAZ”: INTERACTIVE DANCE WARM UP INSTRUCTION

Learn the steps of Yiddish, Roma, and Moldaivan dances with world class dance instructors Avia Moore and Steve Weintraub!
